Sports Massage

What is a Sports Massage

Sports Massage is a type of massage which involves soft tissue manipulation. "Soft tissues" includes structures such as muscle, ligaments, tendons, skin and Fascia. Unlike Deep Tissue Massage, Sports Massage has a more targeted approach whereas Deep Tissue Massage is often presented as full body service.

Sports Massage works by increasing blood flow to the affected area thus transporting oxygen to the surrounding muscles and aiding in the removal of waste products such as lactic acid following exercise.

People often associate Sports Massage with elite level athletes however everybody can benefit!

Whether you are a professional athlete or work a regular nine to five office job, your routine will put specific demands on the soft tissues of your body so why not treat your body like an athlete and take a proactive approach to looking after your body?

Why get a Sports Massage?

Sports Massage is an effective treatment when it comes to muscular discomfort whether that be due to delayed onset of muscle soreness (DOMS) following exercise, trigger points and tightness within the muscle, muscle imbalances or aiding in the repair of scar tissue following injury. Sports Massage can also be used to speed up recovery after exercise. In addition, Sports Massage is an effective tool both when it comes to accelerating the healing process of soft tissue injuries or preventing injuries in the first instance.

What should you expect from a Sports Massage?

There are many similarities between Sports Massage and Deep Tissue Massage with regards to the effects it has on your body, however the key difference is that Sports Massage is mainly administered in a targeted approach with a focus on specific areas of the body relevant to your injury. On the other hand, Deep Tissue Massage is often administered as a full body massage.

For this reason, if you are looking for more generalised pain relief, select "Deep Tissue Massage" when booking your appointment. If you are looking to combat more specific areas of discomfort, select "Sports Massage" when making your booking.
